New Delhi: In a riveting analysis of the fast-developing global economic environment, following Trump’s sudden 90-day pause of his tariffs but escalating the China-America retaliation and trade war, India’s former chief economic adviser Arvind Subramanian has said that the tariffs may have paused, “but the danger is not over”, adding that “the uncertainty continues”.

Subramanian, who is presently a senior fellow at the Peterson Institute for International Economics, in a 28-minute interview to Karan Thapar for The Wire, said that he believes the overall impact on India will be “greater than anticipated”.

He envisages that decisions to postpone or cancel investment in America or elsewhere in the world could also have an adverse impact on the connected global connectivity centres in India. It is not just on Indian manufacturing and Indian investment that there will be an impact.

In the interview, Subramanian identifies several potential areas which China, if it wants, could use to retaliate against the recent increase in US tariffs to 125%.
