Sanjaya Baru, one of India's most prominent political analysts, has said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is to blame for mishandling US president Donald Trump’s ego and provoking steep tariffs and a further penalty on India. Baru minimised the responsibility of external affairs minister Jaishankar in India’s mishandling of Trump.
“Giving Trump the credit on Operation Sindoor is a small price to pay. It may also be the truth and i think it is," he said.
“I think good sense should have prevailed here in Delhi. This gentleman is seeking something. Let me give it to him because it doesn’t really cost me much to make this gesture to the world’s most important country and most powerful power," he added.
Baru said the Modi government’s fault arises out of its failure to properly respond to the changing geo-politics between USA, China and Pakistan. For the last quarter century India has sought to keep the US on our side. But now both China and the US have a good equation with Pakistan. He said this is “perhaps the lowest point for Indian foreign policy”.
