New Delhi: Freddy Svane, the Danish ambassador to India, posted a video about garbage being dumped behind the Danish embassy in New Delhi, saying that it was time for action.

Svane posted the video on his personal X account, which says in the bio that its “tweets & RTs [retweets] are strictly personal.”

“Welcome to great, green and trashy New Delhi,” Svane is heard saying in the video.

“Here we have the Danish embassy and we have the great embassy of Greece. This should be a service lane, but you see it is full of trash. And people are just dumping whatever they like…here,” he continues.

“So I hope somebody will listen to this and take action. No more nice words. Just action, my friends, dhanyawad,” he says.

In his caption with the video, he writes that he is saddened by this.

The area where the Danish embassy is located is under the jurisdiction of the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC).

Over four hours after Svane’s post on X, another video has been uploaded showing him lauding “heroes” among the NDMC staff for ‘taking action’ based on his video.

“[A] few hours ago, I put out a video to showcase that it could be a mess, but it only takes human action,” he is heard saying. Svane also says that New Delhi is now “great, green and clean”.

Svane is a veteran Danish presence in India. He had earlier served a five-year term as ambassador to India from 2010 to 2015. After a stint in Japan, he returned as envoy to New Delhi in 2019.
