New Delhi: The death toll due to building collapse in Delhi's Welcome area on Saturday (July 11) has risen to 6. According to PTI, eight others have been injured and a rescue operation is still underway.
The four-story building collapsed in the Janta Colony near Idgah road. The people trapped included 10 members of a family who lived in the building.
The bodies of the building owner, his wife, two sons and two others were retrieved from the debris and sent to GTB Hospital, PTI quoted an official as saying.
At 7 am on Saturday morning, the police received the information about the building collapse. As police reached the spot, it found three stories had already collapsed.
Apart from Delhi Fire Services, a National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) is also engaged in the rescue operations
The Indian Express reported an official as saying that cranes could not be brought in due to narrow lanes so the debris was cleared manually.
The reason for the tragedy is yet to be known. According to media reports, the residents were sleeping when the building collapsed.
