Ray discussed the British attitude to multiculturalism and racism and how many communities have chosen to maintain their separate religious identity rather than integrate with the rest of the country, something that has become a red rag to right-wing fringe groups.

New Delhi: The riots in Britain are serious and continuing but Keir Starmer could be the right man to handle them, senior journalist Ashis Ray tells Karan Thapar.

In an interview, Ray analysed the riots that have spread through Britain during the last one week and are still continuing. The cities affected include Liverpool, Middlesbrough, Bolton, Rotherham, Southport, Sunderland, Hull, Blackpool, Leeds, Bristol, Nottingham, Hartlepool, Plymouth, Birmingham and Belfast.

Notably, shops and houses have been vandalised, mosques were attacked and even hotels housing immigrants were set on fire. This now looks like a repeat of 2011 when riots broke out in a similar fashion across the United Kingdom.

Ray discussed the British attitude to multiculturalism and racism and how many communities have chosen to maintain their separate religious identity rather than integrate with the rest of the country, something that has become a red rag to right-wing fringe groups.
