The Adopt a Heritage Scheme 2.0, launched in September 2023, has sparked controversy over its true intentions. Critics argue that it’s a concerted effort to erase Mughal history in Delhi. At the centre of this controversy is the Sabhyata Foundation, a corporate-backed NGO run by the Dalmia Group. Their vision document reveals plans to build various amenities at four adopted monuments, including Humayun’s Tomb, Mehrauli Archeological Park and Safdarjung’s Tomb, which could compromise their historical significance.

The founder of the Dalmia Group, the late Vishnu Hari Dalmia, was a former president of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and an accused in the Babri Masjid demolition case. This raises questions about the true motives behind the Sabhyata Foundation’s involvement in the Adopt a Heritage Scheme.

We delve into the controversy surrounding the scheme, the Sabhyata Foundation’s plans, and the Ministry of Culture’s stance on this sensitive issue.
