The Wire Wrap | Air Travel Crippled, Falling Rupee and The Hiren Joshi Question
Amid severe criticism the union government has reversed its directive to smartphone manufacturers and importers to mandatorily pre-install the government backed cybersecurity software Sanchar Saathi app on phone. Thousands of fliers have been left in the lurch as hundreds of IndiGo flights have been cancelled raising questions of the duopoly in the aviation sector and the government's role in allowing this. The rupee has plunged to a record low of Rs 90 against the dollar, while union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman is on the defensive after the IMF's 'C' grade to India's national account statistics. Meanwhile speculation has been rife over PMO's key communication lead Hiren Joshi being silently dropped and then being brought back.
