Journalist Tavleen Singh's debut novel, The Actor, has a character who bears an uncanny resemblance with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. But the character isn't meant to be Modi at all, says Singh in an interview with journalist Karan Thapar.

Tavleen Singh says she drew all her characters and the incidents in the book from life as well as her imagination, but she did not model the particular character in her novel – who is a male, a politician and ruthless and unforgiving by nature – from the prime minister. She points out that there have been other leaders in India who fit that description, although they may have been a woman.

Yet, Tavleen says she is keen to see Modi no longer in the prime minister's chair. Watch Karan Thapar's discussion on The Actor, in which the author describes why she wrote a novel and what she thinks is unfolding in contemporary politics, especially the Cockroach Janta Party.
