A coalition of Indian-Americans protested against Modi’s visit to Houston on Sunday. The coalition spoke against human rights violations happening in the US and in India. The coalition comprises groups of Indian-Americans across religions, including the Hindus for Human Rights (HfHR), the Indian American Muslim Council and the Organization for Minorities of India.
A number of American organisations also showed support for this protest, including Jewish Voice for Peace and Black Lives Matter. The ‘Howdy, Modi’ event in Houston’s NRG Stadium was one of the largest gathering ever of the Indian diaspora with the participation of over 50,000 Indian-Americans. This was the first time that a US President had joined an Indian prime minister to address a rally for the Indian diaspora.
