Watch | NSUI Stages Protest at DU Over Rape Cases in Manipur, Jodhpur

The Congress-backed student outfit attacked ABVP for its 'dual standards' as the accused caught in Jodhpur minor girl rape case were associated with ABVP, which is linked to the BJP.

On Thursday, July 20, National Students of India (NSUI), the student wing of the Indian National Congress held a march from Vishwavidyalaya Metro Station to Delhi University’s Arts Faculty over the Jodhpur minor girl rape case and the video of Manipur girls being paraded nakedly on roads.

The march by NSUI was in response to the right-wing student organisation Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) which held a protest a few days back at Delhi’s Bikaner House against the Congress government in Rajasthan and questioned chief minister Ashok Gehlot over alleged law and order collapse in the state. However, NSUI attacked ABVP for their alleged “dual standard” as the accused caught in Jodhpur minor girl rape case were associated with ABVP, as mentioned by Rajasthan Police.

The Wire spoke to several protesting NSUI activists.

“The Manipur incident is a shame for our entire country. PM Narendra Modi hasn’t said anything about it. He’s enjoying his foreign trips. Looks like he is our ‘Aish Mantri’,” said a protesting student.

“The minor girl in Jodhpur was raped by ABVP people due to ticket distribution in the students’ union election. As elections are also approaching in Delhi University, we are making girls here aware to stay away from ABVP and their activists,” said a female protestor.
