22% of All Unauthorised US-Canada Border Crossings Are By Indians: Report

New Delhi: The border between the United States and Canada has seen an increase in illegal immigration by Indian nationals in recent years, official figures suggest.

According to data of encounters at the northern border from the US Customs and Border Patrol (USCBP), of the total number of illegal immigrants apprehended by border officials in 22 per cent are Indians, reported Hindustan Times.

In 2024, 198,929 people tried to enter the US illegally, of whom 43, 764 were Indians, which amount to 22 per cent of the total figure, the data reveals.

Earlier, the percentage of Indian who tried to enter the US illegally through the Canada-US border stood at 16 per cent in 2022 and 2023.

US President-elect Donald Trump has already said that Canada has to resolve the border issue if it is to escape a 25% tariff on its exports to America.

According to the Canadian media, the issue was discussed by Prime Minister of Canada Justin Trudeau when he recently met Trump.
