New Delhi: A performer at the funeral for Iran’s late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei called for the death of US President Donald Trump before a crowd of hundreds of thousands of mourners who had gathered in Tehran for the dayslong funeral for Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei began Saturday.

Mourners were beating their chests in sorrow before the glass case containing his flag-draped coffin in Tehran and calling for revenge against Israel and the United States, with slogans like “Death to America!” and “Death to Israel!”.

Khamenei, 86, ruled Iran for decades before he was killed in an airstrike on February 28 in the opening moments of the US-Israel war on Iran. His funeral could provide a boost for the country's theocracy and its new supreme leader, his son Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei.

Meanwhile, Mojtaba Khamenei, who wished to attend the funeral, was kept away from it due to fears that Israel would attempt to assassinate him. He hasn't been seen in the public eye since he was wounded in the airstrikes.
