Day 94 of US-Israel War on Iran: Trump Says Tel Aviv, Hezbollah Agree to Dial Back Fighting
New Delhi: The US-Israeli war on Iran entered day 94 on Monday (June 1) with a fresh proposal for de-escalation in Lebanon proposed by Washington and ended with US President Donald Trump announcing – in the aftermath of Israel's deepest incursion into its northern neighbour in over a quarter-century – that Tel Aviv and Hezbollah had agreed to dial back fighting.
Trump's comments emerged after Israel’s government ordered strikes on the southern suburbs of Beirut and as Hezbollah fired rockets at northern Israel, including the outskirts of the coastal city of Haifa. The fighting presents a major obstacle in the emerging deal to extend the ceasefire in the Iran war. Tehran wants any agreement to include Lebanon.
Meanwhile, the US bombed Iran's Goruk and Qeshm Island, calling the attacks "self-defence" strikes. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said that it struck an airbase that was used for an attack on a telecoms tower on Sirik Island, Iran's state media reported.
The death toll in Lebanon after strikes by Israeli forces a day ago rose to 12. The strikes wounded 35 people in more than 36 attacks across southern Lebanon, Al Jazeera reported. These include the strikes in al-Abbassieh in the Tyre district, Hay el-Arab neighbourhood of Deir el-Zahrani, Jdeidet Ansar area, Odaisseh and Hiram Hospital in Tyre.
