New Delhi: A massive blast at Iran's port of Shahid Rajaei close to the town of Bandar Abbas, has injured over 500 people.

The state media has not reported what led to the blast. A photo circulated by the Islamic Republic News Agency, IRNA, shows black smoke rising in the sky as vehicles pass through a road.

The third round of talks are being held between Iran and the US on the former's nuclear programme, in Oman.

A local official told state TV that several containers exploded in the port, without mentioning what triggered the explosion, The Guardian reported.

Shahid Rajaei is the most advanced container port in Iran.

The head of the Red Crescent Society in Hormozgan province, where the port is situated, said four rapid response teams had been sent to the scene after the explosion, DW reported.
