New Delhi: Hours after Iran targeted the US Air Force Base in Qatar, US president Donald Trump claimed that Iran and Israel, which set forth the chaos by attacking Tehran, had agreed to a "complete and total" ceasefire. While Iran has confirmed the ceasefire, Israel accepted the deal after a few hours.

"CONGRATULATIONS TO EVERYONE!" Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform. He said that the ceasefire will come after the two countries "have wound down and completed their in progress, final missions!"

"Officially, Iran will start the CEASEFIRE and, upon the 12th Hour, Israel will start the CEASEFIRE and, upon the 24th Hour, an Official END to THE 12 DAY WAR will be saluted by the World," Trump wrote.

"On the assumption that everything works as it should, which it will, I would like to congratulate both Countries, Israel and Iran, on having the Stamina, Courage, and Intelligence to end, what should be called, 'THE 12 DAY WAR,'" he wrote.

Reuters has reported that Trump spoke to Israel prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu and that his team was in contact with Iranian officials.

Trump, in a follow-up post, claimed that Israel and Iran came to him, "almost simultaneously," asking for peace.

"Israel & Iran came to me, almost simultaneously, and said, “PEACE!” I knew the time was NOW. The World, and the Middle East, are the real WINNERS! Both Nations will see tremendous LOVE, PEACE, AND PROSPERITY in their futures. They have so much to gain, and yet, so much to lose if they stray from the road of RIGHTEOUSNESS & TRUTH. The future for Israel & Iran is UNLIMITED, & filled with great PROMISE. GOD BLESS YOU BOTH!"

Israel have now confirmed Trump's pronouncement. Earlier, Israeli media had claimed that Iran has continued missile strikes, and that three have died in it, although it noted that it was unclear if this was in violation of the ceasefire.

Iranian state television announced the ceasefire on state-run television early today.

Iranian foreign minister Abbas Araghchi wrote on X two hours before the time of publishing this report that there was no agreement on a ceasefire yet.

"As Iran has repeatedly made clear: Israel launched war on Iran, not the other way around.

"As of now, there is NO "agreement" on any ceasefire or cessation of military operations. However, provided that the Israeli regime stops its illegal aggression against the Iranian people no later than 4 am Tehran time, we have no intention to continue our response afterwards.

"The final decision on the cessation of our military operations will be made later."

Araghchi then wrote on X that Iranian military operations "to punish Israel for its aggression" continued "until the very last minute, at 4am."

He added:

"Together with all Iranians, I thank our brave Armed Forces who remain ready to defend our dear country until their last drop of blood, and who responded to any attack by the enemy until the very last minute."

Iran’s strikes on Qatar is in response to US missile strikes on its three three nuclear sites. Last week, Israel had launched strikes on Iran, inviting retaliation.
