New Delhi: After the US and Iran signed an initial peace deal on Wednesday (June 17), global oil prices dropped by 1.9% on Thursday (June 18) morning in Asia. After signing the deal with Iran, US president Donald Trump, who had earlier been critical of Iran’s possession of ballistic missiles, did a turnaround and said that it’s “unfair” Iran to lack ballistic missiles if other regional countries have them.
Meanwhile, Israel has continued its operations in Lebanon, despite the US and Iran trying to ink a deal and bring end to hostilities. The Israeli military said on Wednesday that a 29-year-old soldier was killed “during combat” in southern Lebanon.
Iran’s chief negotiator, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf has said that Iran has been engaging diplomatically with the US from a position of strength.
Ghalibaf, who is also the speaker of the Iranian parliament, said in an interview with Iran’s Press TV, that Iran’s “battlefield victory” had provided the backdrop to the talks.
