India's stance in the Russia-Ukraine war, like many non-Western nations, seems to have been guided by national interests or political proclivities rather in any belief of a lofty ideal such as territorial integrity of Ukraine.

By shrugging aside Russia’s aggression, India has shown indifference to fears that China could follow Russia’s example and try to restructure Asia’s security architecture through war.

Washington and New Delhi seem to have divergent strategic priorities. In order to prevent regional instability and enhance its local stature, India must build new strategic bridges with the US, West and Central Asia and the Pacific.

History shows us that diversity is best managed through the democratic pluralism and political consensus is essential for the stability of a state.
