Although farmers’ distress is as old as farming itself, many of the protesters on the ground recognise that the government is not keen to arrive at a solution that will benefit them.

Though there are roads and buildings named after the members of one family, we do not even know the names of all those who laid down their lives for India's freedom. Now, those ascribing to a specific ideology, who are in power, are on their own naming spree. Their role in the freedom struggle remains deeply suspicious.

The communal riots of Kanpur in 1931 can shed some light on the kind of secularism that India needs and the kind that Bhagat Singh would have surely envisaged.
