In 2002, a concern for the BJP's leadership was what impact Hindu revanchism in Gujarat would have on national politics. But the party appears to have finally reasoned that if deliberately aggravating divisions had benefited the BJP in its Gujarat laboratory, it might be the formula it needs to turn to nationally too.
