By Suspending an Arab Lawyer, Israel’s Bar Has Stepped Onto the Slippery Slope of Dictatorship
The Israeli Bar Association, long a bulwark against Netanyahu’s attempt at judicial capture, has now armed its adversaries by suspending attorney Maha Igbaria over ambiguous social-media posts. In doing so, it risks legitimising a purge of Arab lawyers – and eventually any attorney who challenges an increasingly authoritarian state.
