New Delhi: While one person died after a roof collapsed at the New Delhi airport amid heavy rains in the capital, rain-related disasters took place in other parts of the country as well, leaving a trail of damage.

In Madhya Pradesh’s Jabalpur, a part of the tensile roof/fabric canopy in front of the expanded new terminal building of Dumna Airport collapsed on Thursday after heavy rains, reported The New Indian Express.

Notably, the building was inaugurated just three months ago in March by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The collapse of the roof at the Jabalpur airport resulted in the Congress accusing the BJP government in Madhya Pradesh of corruption, questioning the quality of the construction work.

A government car, which was parked underneath the canopy was damaged in the mishap, but no injuries were reported.

Heavy rainfall also resulted in water logging in Ayodhya, where the Ram temple was inaugurated earlier this year.

Earlier this week, The Hindu reported that Mahant Satyendra Das, chief priest of the Ram temple in Ayodhya said that priests had found the temple flooded with rainwater.

After the chief priests remark, the temple authorities had denied that there was water logging. However, media reports have highlighted how the heavy rainfall has had its impact on the temple.

Rainwater was found to be dripping from conduit pipes, two under-construction staircases near the sanctum sanctorum of the Ram temple and the temporary roof over the ‘gudh mandap’, reported The Indian Express.

Similarly, at the Ayodhya Dham railway station, which was redeveloped at a cost of over Rs. 240 crore and inaugurated a month before the consecration ceremony, water could be seen on the ground floor and first floor, said The Indian Express report.

Elsewhere in the country, Shimla received heavy rainfall with Jubbarhatti in Himachal Pradesh receiving 136 mm rainfall, reported The Indian Express.

The weather department has issued an orange alert pertaining to heavy rain for most parts of Himachal Pradesh.
