New Delhi: The Kolkata police have arrested a third year college student for allegedly posting ‘inciting content’ on WhatsApp groups relating to the recent rape and murder of a postgraduate trainee doctor at the R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital.

The student, identified as Rupsha Mandal, was arrested on Wednesday (September 11) evening, reported anandabazar.com.

According to the police, Mandal had created a WhatsApp group and had sought justice for the R.G. Kar incident.

Police sources say that Mandal had spoken about assembling in Kalighat and attack the Chief Minister’s house. The group allegedly also saw discussion about burning police stations, reported tv9bangla.com.

Mandal was arrested after questioning. She has been booked under BNS sections including sections 353 (statements conducing to public mischief), 111 (organised crime) and 192 (Wantonly giving provocation with intent to cause riot).

Several other people who have been involved in the protests against the R.G. Kar incident had assembled outside the police station where Mandal was arrested.

Some of the protesters questioned Mandal’s arrest and said that the nature of the posts, along with the fact that whether such posts were actually made by Mandal as alleged by the police, is yet to be verified, reported tv9bangla.com.
