New Delhi: Days after he submitted a report that contradcited a BJP MLA’s claim that there was forced conversion of people in some villages of Hosadurga taluk in Karnataka’s Chitradurga district, tahsildar Thippeswamy has been transferred and is awaiting his next posting.
According to the New Indian Express, a new tahsildar has assumed charge. Thippeswamy told the newspaper, “I conducted the survey after several media houses reported about forced conversion. The district administration directed me to undertake the exercise. In my report, I highlighted what the people told me.” He, however, said his transfer did not have anything to do with his report.
In September, BPP MLA Gulihatti Shekar had alleged in the state’s assembly that forced conversions were “rampant” in his constituency. The Hosadurga taluk administration conducted a survey in some villages.
However, the team led by Thippeswamy found that the families had converted to Christianity voluntarily. The report said that 46 families in two villages of the taluk had accepted Christianity on their own and were not forced. The families told the official team that nobody forced them to accept Christianity.
At the time, Thippeswamy told TNIE, “The families told us that nobody forced them, and they are happy and have a peace of mind since they converted to Christianity. When we asked about reports of some people luring them to accept Christianity, the families rubbished those reports.”
