New Delhi: Even two years after the Allahabad High Court had directed the Uttar Pradesh government to rehabilitate the family of the Hathras gangrape and murder victim, the state government has not abided by the court order.

The family members of the 19-year-old Dalit woman who was gangraped and murdered in 2020, face difficulty in their daily movement due to security reasons, the High Court was recently informed, reported The Hindu.

Back in 2020, the Hathras gangrape and murder case had caused nationwide outrage.

The Bench of Justices Rajan Roy and Jaspreet Singh were informed that earlier the CRPF personnel stationed for the family’s protection would take the family members to market, doctor and school in their vehicles.

But now, the CRPF personnel ask the family to arrange a vehicle for if they venture out, which has resulted in financial and logistical difficulties for the family.

“Every time, the CRPF personnel have to accompany the family members, rightly so, as it is necessary for their security but every time the family has to arrange a vehicle. It becomes cumbersome for them not only financially, but even otherwise and makes their life difficult,” the court was informed, reported The Hindu.

The relatives of the victim have alleged that they have they have not been rehabilitated to places of their choice such as Noida and Ghaziabad.

The Allahabad High Court directed Deputy Solicitor General S.B. Pandey to seek instructions in the matter and said that the previous arrangements regarding the family’s transportation should continue until the Bench thoroughly considers the issue, reported The Hindu.

The matter will now be next heard on July 31.
