AAP said this was part of a "big conspiracy", in preparation for the possibility of the Supreme Court granting Kejriwal bail in the ED case.

New Delhi: On the eve of the Supreme Court hearing the plea of Arvind Kejriwal challenging the Delhi high court order staying bail granted by the trial court, the Central Bureau of Investigation has moved to arrest Kejriwal from Tihar Jail in the Delhi liquor policy case.

Kejriwal is currently in jail in the Delhi liquor policy money laundering case. He was granted bail by the trial court on June 20, with the judge saying that the Enforcement Directorate – under the control of the Bharatiya Janata Party-led Union government – had acted with bias against the Delhi chief minister and opposition leader. The high court halted his release just a day later, and today announced a stay on the bail order.

Kejriwal will be produced before the CBI court on Wednesday morning, where the CBI will take his custody for custodial interrogation.

The ED arrested Kejriwal on March 21, alleging that the Delhi chief minister used money received from liquor sellers to fund party activities. The Aam Aadmi Party and other opposition parties have said that this case is part of the pattern of the Narendra Modi regime using central agencies to go after opposition leaders.

AAP leader Sanjay Singh called the CBI’s move a “big conspiracy”. “There is every possibility that Arvind Kejriwal will get bail from the Supreme Court. Before this, the BJP government at the Centre along with the CBI has conspired to arrest Kejriwal by preparing a false case against him,” he said.
