New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was sent to judicial custody till July 12 in relation to a money laundering case linked to the Delhi excise policy.

Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court on Saturday sent Kejriwal to judicial custody after the central bureau of investigation (CBI) sought a 14-day judicial custody of the Delhi Chief Minister, reported The Indian Express.

The CBI had said in its application that Kejriwal’s incarceration was required in the “interest of the investigation and justice”.

Kejriwal was produced in the court after his three-day policy custody had ended.

Kejriwal was arrested on March 21 by the Enforcement Directorate 9ED) in an alleged money laundering case linked to the excise policy.

Earlier this week, the Delhi High Court stayed a trial court order granting him bail in the ED case.

Thereafter, on Wednesday, the CBI had arrested him in connection with a corruption case and he was subsequently presented before Special Judge Amitabh Rawat at the Rouse Avenue Court.

While the case that is being investigated by ED deals with the alleged money trail, the CBI case is pertaining to corruption in the alleged liquor excise policy and bribe-taking by public servants, reported The Indian Express.

This makes it possible for Kejriwal to be kept behind bars irrespective of what the Supreme Court says on bail in the Enforcement Directorate’s case against him on the same excise policy issue.
