New Delhi: An injunction suit has been filed at a Delhi court, seeking to restrain Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and Prime Minister Narendra Modi from making alleged defamatory statements against the corporate house, the Adani Group.

The injunction was filed by the plaintiff, Surjit Singh Yadav, at a Delhi court on Monday, reported The Economic Times. Yadav describes himself as a social worker, farmer and an investor in the share market, as per the court document.

According to the ET report, in his plea, Yadav has cited a speech Gandhi delivered on March 3 in Madhya Pradesh, wherein the Congress leader said that the BJP has waived off Rs 16 lakh crore of loans for the two biggest billionaires in the country, and named the Adani Group.

“How much of farmers loan they have waived? Not even one, I am saying just one thing brother if you can waive their 16 Lacs Crore then you can also waive here 1 Lakh Crore then what is the big mistake in that? We get answer in the parliament that we do not want to break the habit of farmers means you do not want to break habits of farmers but want to break habits of Adani?” say parts of the speech of Gandhi quoted by Yadav in his suit.

Yadav has said in his injunction plea that in their statements Gandhi and Modi, falsely accuse the promoter of the Adani group, which causes unanticipated volatility in the Adani Group stocks, resulting in huge losses to investors such as the petitioner, reported The Financial Express.

In his plea, Yadav has cited a speech of PM Modi in Telangana, wherein he accuses the Congress of taking bribes from Ambani and Adani.

The injunction has been filed at a time when both the Congress and BJP have traded corruption allegations involving the other party and corporate groups such as Ambani and Adani.

The fresh row had erupted, after PM Modi said in his campaign speech in Telangana that Gandhi, who in the last few years has been vocal against Ambani and Adani, had suddenly gone silent, suggesting that the Congress could have received “chori ka maal” or “black money” from Adani and Ambani as part of a deal. He asked whether Adani-Ambani had delivered tempos full of money to the Congress office.

After Modi’s speech, the Congress launched a counter attack, challenging the Prime Minister to send central agencies such as the Enforcement Directorate (ED), Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and Income Tax Department to investigate alleged black money lying with Ambani and Adani.
