New Delhi: In a tragic incident, Sapam Charubala, wife of former MLA Yamthong Haokip, lost her life in a bomb blast that occurred outside their home in Kangpokpi district, Manipur, on Saturday (August 10), India Today reported.

The 59-year-old victim was engaged in cleaning work outside their home in Ekou Mullam village when the explosion occurred at around 3 pm. Despite being rushed to the hospital, Charubala succumbed to her injuries. No one else was harmed in the incident.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the bomb detonated while Charubala was burning waste materials in the compound of a neighbouring vacant house. The police are still investigating the incident and are yet to determine who planted the bomb. Notably, Haokip and his family had not received any threats prior to the incident.

The authorities have urged the public to refrain from spreading rumors and linking the incident to the recent ethnic violence in the state, which resulted in over 200 deaths and thousands displaced. The police are working to uncover the truth behind the tragic event.
