New Delhi: The interim government of Bangladesh on Tuesday (August 13) cancelled the national holiday on August 15, the day when the country’s founder and former Prime Minister Sheikh Mujibur Rehman was assassinated.

A press release from the Chief Adviser’s office said that the decision to cancel the national holiday was approved in the meeting of the Advisory Council, reported the Press Trust of India.

An official notification was issued to confirm the decision.

Former PM Mujibur Rehman is the father of Sheikh Hasina, who recently resigned from her post of the Prime Minister and fled to India after massive protests against her regime. Rehman and most of his family members were assassinated on August 15, 1975 after junior officers of the Bangladesh army staged a coup.
